A Step-by-Step Guide for Even Application of Foundation

Foundation is used to make your skin glow and even out your complexion. Apart from the type of product you use, the way you apply the foundation will determine the result. The face might look cakey or uneven if the foundation is not applied well or you’re not using the right tools. Here is how to apply the foundation to get the best result. All you need to do is follow the steps outlined below.

1. Prepare your skin
The first step before applying foundation is to prep your skin with skin care. You need to first get rid of leftover makeup and grime by gently dabbing your skin with cotton dipped with a toner or cleanser. You can also use cleansing milk to do this step.

Once you are done with cleansing, apply a moisturizer. Use a gel-based moisturizer for oily skin; else use a creamy moisturizer. It is advisable to use a moisturizer with SPF to protect you from the harsh rays of the sun. Wait for 10 minutes before you apply the foundation so that the moisturizer sets in for the base.

2. Use a primer
Use a primer to smoothen skin and fill in pores. Use a powder or cream primer; apply with your fingers gently on the T-zone of your face. This will also makeup last longer.

3. Color correct
If you have dark circles under the eye or uneven patches of skin, you can use a color corrector. Red patches can be covered by using green color correctors. Dark spots can be corrected using an orange color if you have dark skin. For olive skin, you can use a yellow color to correct dark shadows.

For the medium type of skin use peach color corrector to hide bluish-purple shadows. If you have fair skin and blue spots, then select a pink color corrector.

4. Start with the foundation
Select the foundation depending on your skin type and skin tone. For dry skin, use a liquid foundation. Use an oil-free powder foundation for oily skin. Powder foundation is better for combination type of skin. Use the color and shade that matches your skin tone. While buying foundation, apply on the back of your hand to check if it matches your tone.

Use a brush or a sponge to apply the foundation. Start with little product and apply on the forehead, chin, nose, and below the eyes. Start from the center and spread outwards, this helps to prevent streaks.

If you prefer light coverage, use your finger. For full coverage, use a sponge.

5. Blend the foundation
Blend the foundation into the skin. You can use a damp sponge. Gently dab using the sponge to blend it seamlessly. Never wipe hard.

6. Conceal blemishes
Once you are done blending, you can use a concealer product to hide blemishes like pimples. Apply with your fingers and leave for 5 minutes. Then blend using the tip of the sponge.

7. Use a setting powder
To avoid creasing and breaking of the foundation base, you can use a translucent powder and dust it on your face using a brush.

The above-mentioned steps listed in this guide will help you apply foundation in the best possible way. This helps you create a flawless base to achieve the desired look.
